A
Brief History
November 15, 1998, Pastor Earl Schafer was called by the Southeastern Synod to
develop a new congregation in the Hiram/Dallas area of Paulding County,
Georgia
August
1999 a lease was signed with the Cotton Field Plaza to rent approximately 1,700 square foot space for
the developing
church to take root in the Paulding County community.
First worship service was held on October 10, 1999 in the Cotton Field Plaza location. The
congregation continued to grow from the 5 founding families until Holy Cross Lutheran was officially chartered as a
congregation of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on February 10, 2002.
Present membership is 238 people ranging in age from toddlers to senior citizens.
Holy Cross Lutheran averaged 109 people in worship each week of 2005.
In April of 2004, Holy Cross Lutheran Church purchased the former First Baptist
Church building, 76 Seaboard St. Hiram, Georgia. The two story building has 9,000 total square feet providing sufficient space of this growing
congregation.
Ministries included: Men's Bible Study and Fellowship, Women of the ELCA organization called
"Holy Women". Youth ministries, Confirmation, Sunday School for all ages, Vacation Bible School, and monthly adult
fellowship activities, "Cross Ways" Bible Study group. The
people of Holy Cross give to local ministries of their time, food, and enjoy
working on special projects.
The
congregation currently gives 22% of the offerings that they receive to ministries outside of the congregation:
to support the Evangelical Lutheran Church, other developing congregations, and local charities.
