In the spring of 2013 while serving in student ministry in Charlotte, NC, Taylor and Emily Burgess became burdened to serve in an area that was highly unchurched and in need of spiritual revitalization. After months of research and prayer, they moved their young family to Beaufort, SC and Taylor joined the staff of Tidal Creek Fellowship on Lady's Island as Student Pastor. From 2007-2013, Taylor also served in the Army National Guard in both North Carolina and Virginia. Due to his background in the military and out of a strong desire to reach service members and their families, he was drawn to Beaufort, home of two active duty military bases and a naval hospital.
It was only a few weeks after moving to Beaufort that Taylor and Emily fell in love with the beautiful, historic, coastal town, and God immediately placed a burden on their heart to see a spiritual awakening take place in this significantly unreached community, which is currently more than 90% unchurched. Since arriving in Beaufort, their family of 3 has become a family of 4, they have built some of their strongest friendships and have also made some of their most cherished memories. It did not take long for them to begin calling Beaufort "home," and their desire is to raise their family and establish their home here in the Lowcountry.
At Tidal Creek, Taylor & Emily were privileged to lead IGNITE, a student ministry that began with 6 students meeting in their living room apartment in the Fall of 2013 and rapidly grew into a ministry that served more than 100 middle and high school students on a weekly basis. In addition to his role as Student Pastor, Taylor also served as the primary speaker for Tidal Creek's Saturday Evening Worship service for 2 years.
In the fall of 2015, after several months of prayer and planning, Tidal Creek Fellowship joyfully and enthusiastically agreed to send Taylor and his family to plant another church in the Beaufort area out of a shared conviction that the most effective way to reach those who are currently unchurched is by planting new churches. From the Tidal Creek staff, Taylor was also joined by Greyson Johnston, who is serving as Creative Arts Pastor, and Leandra Livesay, who is serving as the Children's Ministry Director.
Cross Community launched community groups for Bible study and outreach projects in September 2016, and began holding public worship gatherings at Beaufort High School on January 22, 2017.
